A refashion of sorts

Remember my favorite dress of 2009?  I called it the purple rain dress, Simplicity 3678.  I wore this dress as much as a person could, sometimes twice a week.  Loved it.

That is, until I became aware of the unflattering length of the hem.  Sometime in 2010 I decided that the dress was too long and stopped wearing it.  But a couple of weeks ago, I started to miss my dress and thought why not just raise the hem and make it wearable again.

Of course, I decided this about 20 minutes before I had to leave the apartment with Jack, so I just did slapdash job of it.  I folded the hem up evenly all around and just sewed a slight zigzag stitch from the right side in black thread.  From 8 inches away, you can see the hem, but not from 2 feet away.  And who’s going to be 8 inches away from hem besides an overly curious toddler?

And this is how I have been wearing it the last two weeks.  Yes, it is in heavy rotation again.  🙂

In other sewing news, I’m still working on the Cashmere Goddess.  It’s slow going.  Hopefully this week I will finish it, but I won’t promise — my social life keeps getting in the way.

Happy sewing everyone!

I prefer my dresses just above the knee too. Looks great with the leg-ins.

The new length looks great! I hem all of my dresses that length too.

Looks great at the new length – and you look way slimmer than in 2009 🙂 Great to hear your social life is going well too.

That is a gorgeous dress–love it! And no, the hem is not visible.
