A seamstress enters a fabric store to purchase lining

Have you heard this one yet?  So, a seamstress enters a fabric store to purchase lining.  Does she come out with just the lining or with other fabrics too?  Well, if you’re me, you come out with a whole bunch of other things.  I know I speak for many other stashaholics when I say that it is nigh on impossible to walk into a store and not come out with at least two other lengths of fabric besides the one for which you went in there in the first place.  When I posted a similar tale on Facebook this week, my sewing friends offered another scenario…  The seamstress comes out with a bunch of fabrics and forgets the lining.  That would have been very funny if that had happened.  And it would have meant another shopping opportunity was needed of course.  😉

So this week, while I’ve been designing a color blocked dress in my head, I ran into my neighborhood fabric store, P&S, to buy some lining for the dress.  Of course I came out with a few other fabrics as well.  Of course.  As I walked into the store, I noticed some great madras fabric in bright blues and reds.  After making Thor’s cute shorts the other day, I knew I really loved madras fabric.  So I went looking for the madras in the window (is everyone now hearing that old song about a doggie in the window now?).

Then I spied these super cute fabrics side by side each other.  They would be so cute as a little girl’s dress wouldn’t they???

I couldn’t correct the colors just right.  The purplish color should actually be a pink.  The orange is pretty true to life though.  Aren’t they cute?

Are you wondering if I remembered the lining?

Why yes I did.  I really shouldn’t have bought more fabric considering how close it is to PR Weekend in May (Are you going?), but I just couldn’t resist.  I am helpless in the face of cute fabrics for great prices!

In other sewing news, I recently moved my blog to a new server.  So if you ever got a virus warning when trying to access my site, the problem is completely resolved.

Jack and I are away this weekend in the country, so no sewing is happening, but next week is a brand new sewing week and I am excited to start working on my dress.  I bought some matching topstitching thread and I can’t wait to see how the dress will turn out.

Happy sewing everyone!

Fun fabric! I totally always go into a store to get one or two things and come out with three pieces of fabric I wasn’t planning to get. Recently, I went to a Hancock’s to get lining and some sale patterns, and I ended up with some lovely pinstriped wool for pants. Even though we are heading into spring/summer and I really don’t need wool, I couldn’t pass it up! I love all my stash fabric so much though, so as long as I love it, it is ok right?

Also, can’t make it to PR weekend – you will have to post lots of pictures and tell us all about it!

Ha! It is quite a danger for us. I managed to go to G Street for Fashion Sewing Club on Saturday and walked out with zippers and elastic. No fabric! It was quite a proud moment.
