Belated birthday present

Quick turnaround here, folks, at Chez SEWN.  Since SSS is a temporary wadder and my purse completed yesterday was a such a success, I thought I would make my mom a purse for her birthday present.  If I ever figure out how to fix my user error on the SSS, I might end up giving it to her at a later date.

I had my mom peruse my stash to pick out her fabric for her purse.  I thought it would be better if she picked it out so that she would use it more often.  She likes to have her purses match her outfits, so we went with a versatile color, black.  Of course, she picked the Chanel fabric I’ve been hoarding since I bought it at Elliott Berman Textiles in NYC.  Of course.  A purse doesn’t take up much real estate yardage-wise, so I hope I can eke out something for me with the remaining 1.5 yards.  Maybe a sleeveless shirt?  Hmmm…

But back to my mom’s belated birthday present.  This second time around, things went a bit quicker.  I made 4.3 yards more of piping.  I interfaced the fabric before cutting.  And it just generally went quicker without all that pesky thinking and second-guessing one does when working on a pattern for the first time.  I remembered to add the straps at the right time, so no unpicking was needed.  My piping match at the side seams isn’t as good as the first time, but definitely in the acceptable range.  I added a ribbon to the zipper pull for a decorative as well useful touch.

But enough wordy words…  Here are the pictures…

Check out that jacquard-like tone on tone floral and the sheen of the Chanel fabric. J’adore!

Happy birthday Mom!  Hope you like it.  Love you!

Next up?  Not sure.  I have my nephew Thor’s birthday coming up, but summer arrived here in sunny San Diego and momma needs some summer clothes stat!!!

That fabric is gorgeous, and what a great gift for your Mom. Is the fabric the right weight for a pencil skirt?

Both of your bags turned out beautiful – your mum has great taste in fabric! 1.5 yards should be enough for a sheath dress, you could even add piping like the bag!
