Catch Up

2013 July 28

Well, hello!

It’s been a fun couple of days folks.  Today was my birthday.  It’s already over on the East Coast, but I have three more hours of it here on the West Coast.  So let me catch you up on the last few days.  I cut out my second Advance 8612 blouse, but forgot to alter the armhole.  Doh!  I might scoop it out a bit more before I sew it up.  Then on Friday, I went out to a fun place,  Paint N Vineyard, with a mama friend.  And with no painting experience at all, I came out with this beauty.  😉

Now I know this ain’t no work of art and is garish at best.  But…  I painted something and it is semi-recognizable as a landscape.  And man was it fun to work on it.  So much fun.  Of course, the fact that we brought a bottle of wine with us didn’t hurt either.

Inspired by that minor triumph, the little boy and I went out to the local Michael’s to buy some easels and canvases and we set about painting en plein air today for my birthday.  I thought I’d try my hand at koi and Jack chose a racing car, natch.

I’m not finished with mine yet.  I still have the second koi and some water details to add.  Jack said he was all done with his race car though.  He mixed his colors himself and used real brushes and real paint, not kid washable paint.  He added a sky, fluffy clouds, and green grass.  Check out the aerodynamic fin on the back of the car.  Very realistic.  He was so proud; check out that smile.  Love that little boy.

I had fun painting with Jack.  Great way to spend my birthday.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to thank you all for voting for my shorts in the Shorts on the Line contest.  Unfortunately, I didn’t win, but I was up against some stiff competition with lots of great detailing on their shorts.  Mine were just plain shorts with no extra detailing.

I am going to work on my second Advance 8612 blouse tomorrow.  So hopefully I will have something to show off on Monday.

Happy sewing and painting everyone!

    Happy Birthday!
I think your paintings (and your son’s, of course) look great especially for a beginner. Just one thing: Painting seems like the kind of hobby which can also take up a lot of time… So it might just interfere with your sewing 😉
