Did I mention that I hate packing?

Ugh, I am still deep in the throes of packing and not the good kind (i.e., fabric), but the bad kind (deciding how and with what else to pack all the small crap that accumulates on every flat surface of your house).

Packing the fabric was a breeze.

And 12 boxes later, I am now ready to pack up my machines and my notions/sewing supplies.  The thread holder is baffling me right now, but I guess I’ll figure it out.

I did decide to ship my coverstitch and serger instead of carrying them on to the plane with me.  All the yelling I mean your comments were very helpful in making that decision.  Although the post office lady man-handled my boxes in ways I didn’t think possible RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES!!!!  I hope my machines make it one piece.

I moved here 9 years ago yesterday with my best friend Cayce and she’s here helping me pack to move to San Diego.  She’s the best, best friend ever.  I have received offers from many of my friends here in the city to help pack, but that’s such a personal thing, don’t you think?  It would be like people going through your underwear drawer.  Cayce is like a sister to me, so it’s not that strange that she would be helping me.

But if you really want to help me, SEND WINE!!!  Just kidding.  I couldn’t possibly drink all that wine in the next five days.  Or could I?

Hope you’re all staying cool in this heat.

I hope I have some sewing stuff to talk about this time next week, but please don’t hold me to it.  Moving is hard work.

Wishing you the best on your move. Hope you can get moved and back to blogging quickly too.

I’m currently unpacking after going through the whole packing thing 6 weeks ago. Unpacking is much more fun and I totally agree with the whole personal thing for both packing and unpacking. Hubby and I packed all by ourselves despite many offers of help. I think everyone thought we were a bit weird but I just wanted to make sure I know everything is packed to my standard. Best of luck with the big move xx

I totally agree with you on the personal nature of packing. Also totally agree that packing fabric is easy (smushability is a fabulous quality that is not to be underestimated) though perhaps lifting all the boxes of fabric is maybe not so easy. I hope all of your sewing items make it to CA safely!

Oh, and as an incentive – so far the West Coast summer hasn’t been nearly as bad as the East Coast summer, so there is that to look forward to! Of course, in my experience, anytime anyone I know moves to or from San Diego it decides to be randomly hot for 3 days, then, as soon as they are done carrying heavy boxes and grumpy cats up and down stairs it goes back to its usual 75-degree temperatures. Go figure.

Oh, I found the info on fabric heaven in L.A. that i posted about previously…the place to go in L.A. is “the corner of Maple and 9th Street. That’s the LA fabric district. I am ENVIOUS of you for being a LOT closer to there than I will ever be. It sounds FANTASTIC.

And, just hang in; “moving hell” comes to an end eventually! Just keep the mantra “Maple and 9th” in mind!

Sending good wishes your way; I know exactly what you mean about packing!

Just think where you’ll be this time next week!!!! Do the doing and it will be over soon. Has to be, doesn’t it. After all, nothing beats an immovable deadline. (Pun intended).

Yes, you did mention that you hate packing! Doesn’t everyone? And did I mention that I admire the courage you’ve shown in making such a move? I don’t know if I would handle a big move in such an organized and practical manner.

I live in san Diego and love it. Being so close to the fabric district is also a plus. Good luck with the move!

Moving really is hard work. It would break my heart to send my babies through the post office, but you really made the right decision re: the plane. It would just be impossible.
