Fastest make ever
2012 March 4
My nephew Thor’s birthday is this weekend. We’re going to the Children’s Museum of Arts to celebrate. Since I sew and I used to be a little kid, I both sewed him a present and bought him a toy. Hey, I’m not stupid! ;)
I used Simplicity 5284 again for Thor’s present this year, but this time, I made him board shorts instead of pants.
Using one of Jack’s shorts I marked where I wanted the shorts to end and cut away on my fabric. As I said last year, this was a really quick sew. I pre-washed the fabric, cut it out and sewed the majority of the shorts last night. This morning, using Jack as my fit model, I finished the waistband. Same as the last time, I used Dana of Made’s Flat Front Pant Tutorial. I just think it ups the shorts to whole other level, like eleven! For this fabric, a madras I bought from Kashi at Metro Textiles last year, I used Ann of Gorgeous Fabrics’ notes on sewing this kind of fabric.
So without further ado, here are some pics of the shorts. I hope Thor likes them!
Happy sewing everyone!

Adorable! So glad this post wasn’t about the effects of prune juice.
Really cute shorts and you are a great aunt – a toy, too.
Totally cute.
How cute! Your nieces and nephews really make out well with your sewing ability!
Cute! Do they have pockets, too? I love them.
These shorts are adorable! I bet Thor is going to love them. Happy Birthday Thor!
WAY cute!!!! xoS
They’re totally cool shorts! And I love that fabric!
My girls want some but “more pink”! That’s an endorsement let me tell you.
PS I think they’re cute and fast is always good for the personal satisfaction!!
