I’m so close…

I can smell it.  A dress that is.  I am just loving this version of B5147.  It is so darn stinking cute.  I think I will call this dress the Subtle Dress and that’s subtle pronounced my favorite way: with an audible B.  The way it should be pronounced in my opinion.  If there’s a B in a word, I am going to use it my friends.  That’s all there is to it.  Sub-tell.  Á la Français: subtile.  They say the B, why shouldn’t we?

Oops, I became distracted by the B.  Anyhoo, I am going to call it my SuBtle dress because the holey parts of my black cotton eyelet are so small that the teal underlining doesn’t show through as much as I thought it would.  It’s like the dress only winks a splash of teal on the sly.  All suBtle-like, if you will.

Last night, I resewed all the front darts, bias taped the armscyes and attached the bias tape to the neckline, but didn’t finish it yet.  I want to insert the zipper first before I fold over and top stitch the bias tape.  It will look neater with the zipper tape safely ensconced inside the bias tape, don’t you think?  I also determined where to hem the dress — just at the knee.  Oh my, this dress is just too cute.  I mean it.  I can’t wait to wear it and show it to you all.

Today, I ran over to P&S and picked up some long black invisible zippers.  I don’t want to be without any ever again.  And, yes, I had a quick look-see for some new fabric, but my super-ego was firmly in control today and there was no random fabric purchasing.  However, I met the cutest woman today.  She asked me for my opinion on a color name for a fabric swatch for which she was trying to match thread.  It was teal, coincidentally, just like my underlining.  We chatted for a bit and she said that she was making an outfit, a dress and coat, for a fashion show later this year.  She was wearing an African print dress with the most amazing peplum I have ever seen.  She was a stunner.  I gotta tell you.  It was so awesome to see someone in their 70’s still sewing and competitively at that.  It makes me feel better since I’m such a late bloomer sewing-wise.

And just because you can’t have a post without pictures, here are my invisible zippers from P&S, the downtown NYC go to fabric and notions store.

I am so excited to have my zipper now.  I can finish my dress tonight!!!!  Yeah!

Snerk! That’s how I said it for years, too…

Although it’s not as if the French don’t forget to pronounce plenty of other letters…
