Meet me in San Francisco

I’d say St. Louis (as in the song), but I’m not going to St. Louis.  I am going to San Francisco for Labor Day weekend to visit friends.  And of course I can’t be in the area without checking out the fabric stores.  I have heard so much about Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics and Britex Fabrics.  Yes, I know one is in San Fran and one is Berkeley.   I will have to see if I can go to both or just one of them.

I would love to meet up with anyone in the area if you are around and/or available that weekend.  I am thinking Saturday, September 1st.  Timing TBD upon interest and availability.  Please let me know in the comments and I will update here later with the plan.

Looking forward to meeting some of you and fabric shopping!

I’m not going to be in SF that weekend but may I also suggest Fabrix and Satin Moon? They’re about a block away from each other on Clemen St. in SF. Fabrix is bargain-y stuff but often nice, and the prices are reasonable. Satin Moon is tiny, but packed with lovely things. Not inexpensive. There are also plenty of RTW shops to snoop shop in SF, not to mention great restaurants, so you will have a great time!

I’m going to suggest Satin Moon as well. Fabric is on the high end, but really gorgeous and they have buttons I’ve never seen anywhere else. Satin Moon is on Clement St. between Arguello and 2nd Ave. I believe Satin Moon is closed on Sunday and Monday so you’d probably want to give them a call before trekking out there. If you’ll be in downtown SF and using public transportation, the 38 Geary bus will drop you a block south of Clement St.

Sadly I’m working that weekend (and every weekend to be sure) so I shall miss you. I would go to Stone Mountain before Britex if it were up to me. The half off upstairs at SM is my personal Nirvana. Silk and wools are half off – sign me up! I’d also hit Fabrix on Clement in SF, especially if you want swim fabric for $4/yd. That is not a typo!

Have a great time with your pals!

Britex. I love that store. I go up to SF once a year and buy enough fabric to last almost the whole year. The other stores are good but Britex is spectacular. Also, you’re in Union Square and there are lots of other great places in the area. I live in S.D. and would love to meet you. Send me an email and maybe we can meet for lunch. I live near Balboa Park.

There is an active sewing community in the Bay Area with frequent meet ups – I’d contact Beth at Sunny Gal http://sunnygalstudio.blogspot.com or Shams at Communing With Fabric http://communingwithfabric.blogspot.com

Hi. I am a total beginner and would be no help to you in the technique department. But, I am a native San Franciscan who grew up going to Britex with my mom and has a beginning sewing class scheduled at Stone Mountain in a couple weeks.

If you would like to meet, I would be very happy to hit a few places with you. I should have my materials list by then.

    Iris
