Mojo Waning

2012 April 15
by elizabeth_admin

People, I have had all weekend to sew.  But I haven’t sewn a stitch at all.  Not one.  I even (gasp!) stopped drinking wine in order to concentrate on sewing.  I find that if I have a glass of wine in the evening, my plans for sewing go out the window and I start watching tv.  Not very productive.  On a side note, I have also discovered that I sleep much better if I don’t have wine.  Bonus!  A girl needs her beauty sleep.

So I received my emergency fabric order from Apple Annie Fabrics and can I say that it was just what the doctor ordered?  It’s the perfect Kelly green and the cotton sateen has just the right weight and drape for a skirt.  Did I mention it’s perfect?  Did I mention that I love green???

Of course, this fabric deserves a special pattern.  I can’t make it up in any old plain skirt pattern.  I immediately thought of the Rachel Comey skirt (V1247) with the pocket.  Remember this one from last year?

So cute!  Several people made it last year, like Carolyn, but I am slow to jump on bandwagons.  I still haven’t made up the Vogue drape neck dress that the entire sewing world has made, V1250.

And while I’m at it, I might as well mention some other fabric purchases from recent forays to the garment district and Fabricmart weakness.  From Kashi at Metro Textiles, I bought this stunning sunset-y fabric.  It’s my first polyester purchase.  I have stayed away from polyester before this, but this print was just too yummy to pass up.  It doesn’t feel too plasticky and the drape is beautiful, so hopefully it will make up beautifully too.

From Fabricmart, I bought these two fabrics.  One is shirting that I thought of making into a man’s shirt, but am now gonna go in a linen direction for that project.

The other is an ITY knit in my colors of purples and more purples.  Delicious!

I am (im)patiently waiting for my Rachel Comey skirt pattern to arrive for my kelly green fabric.  Hopefully Monday.  In the meantime, if you find my sewing mojo wandering around somewhere, please send it back to me.  COD even.  I need it back pronto.  I’ll even pay a ransom for it.

Happy sewing everyone.

One teeny warning about that pattern. It may have been my own mistake, but I think the waistband was drafted too small – I had to add an extension onto mine, otherwise it would have never fit the main skirt pieces. It’s also very, very short, but it’s dead easy to add extra length. I’m sure it’ll look gorgeous in your green fabric.

Okay that gorgeous green fabric and that Rachel Comey pattern could easily become this Toast dress I’ve been eyeing for quite sometime!

I love your new fabrics! So much pretty!

And, well, my mojo is hiding out as well. Sewing for other people can do that, it seems. If I find yours hiding out with mine I will send it your way…

I am totally jealous of that sunset-y fabric, I am a sucker for a pretty poly, I think there are good and bad ones and it doesn’t hurt to jazz up the stash with e few…also that purple knit is so gorgeous, I want some for my stash baaaad!

Another Carolyn who has made a couple of amazing versions of that skirt too:

Between seasons bogs down my scheming. I need to visualize myself prancing about in my projects to get motivated. I’m instant gratification girl.

I always clean the sewing machine when suffering from lack of mojo. Works a treat for me, but maybe I’m just strange! Lovely fabric you have there.

I love the green fabric and love the purple knit even more. I’m going to run over and snatch it from you. The mojo will return shortly!

Oooooh, good picks. That purple especially is so you! I’m curious to see the skirt–I’m wondering if it has enough hem volume to bike in or not.
