New jammies but no picture

Last night instead of working on another iteration of Jalie 2806 in size ginormous (aka sz V) and instead of working on my double knit dress, I worked on another set of jammies for Jack.  Why you ask?  In order to avoid laundry.  Do any of you do that?  Sew to avoid laundry?  That’s a new one on me.  I’m sure it would be far easier to do the darn laundry, but not as much fun and definitely not as satisfying, especially when you get to see the smile of delight from a cute little boy in the morning after you’ve finished them.

So tonight, the Jalie top is back at the top of the sewing queue.  Sz GINORMOUS.  I really have to work on this male sickness I have, body eumorphia.  It’s really starting to kill my sewing mojo.  It’s probably why I keep putting off my double knit dress.  This is a serious sickness people.

Ok, enough about me, let’s talk about my sewing agenda.  The Jalie top.  Some of you asked if I used the correct SA measurement of 1/4 inch.  Yes, I did!  I used my serger almost entirely to construct the top.  The only time I used my sewing machine was to gather the front bodice.  The gathering was difficult because of the small seam allowance.  How the heck do you gather a knit fabric within a 1/4 inch seam allowance?  The knit bunches up and sinks into the feed plate.

Regarding the serging, was I not supposed to use the serger to attach the neck binding?  I thought I was supposed to do that.  And if that is the right way, there’s no way I could use pins to keep the gathers evenly placed while I’m serging; the serger would eat the pins.  Any suggestions would be welcome, I’m not too proud to ask.

Well, I guess I will see what happens tonight.  Wish me luck!

Happy sewing people!

Hrrm. I would say, hand-baste the gathers and then sew on the band by regular machine. But then, I’m still pretty novice with my serger. I’d also go with whatever band works, not necessarily their instructions, but that may just be me and my tendency to disregard instructions for better or for worse. Good luck!

I would use my regular sewing machine to stitch the neckband and then serge afterwards if necessary.
