Rebuttal and Pattern Giveaway

2012 October 4
by elizabeth_admin

Wow, my last post really generated a lot of comments!  Thank you so much for all positive feedback.  I didn’t really mean to body bash myself.  I meant the post to be  more humorous and self-deprecating, but as I re-read it, I can see how negative it actually was.  I just wanted to talk about the disconnect we all have at times with the reality in our minds and the one facing us in our mirrors.  I’m sure that the people who have the body type I long for sometimes wish for more of my curves.  We’re all human.  We all think the grass is always greener.  I love my shift dresses and my easy wearing tops I’ve made.  They will remain in my wardrobe.  As Carolyn said, there’s a place in my wardrobe for those clothes.

But back to sewing…  Today I received a box o’ fabric.  In it were some rayon/poly blend double knits in grey and navy and two faux leathers.  I love the  double knits, but I was really disappointed with the faux leathers.  One was stripper-tastic and the other was just meh.  Remember when I said I don’t swatch?  Yeah, well, this is one of those times I really should have swatched.  Sigh…  So I have found a couple of other options on-line and have ordered swatches.  My sewing group on FB had some great suggestions for how to use the stripper-tastic faux leather, like using it as piping on something.  Love that idea.

I had a little chunk of time today in between going for a walk and baking for today’s play date (yes, I am that mom now – excuse me while I throw up a little in my mouth), so I went through my sewing patterns.  I wanted to organize them a little and get a sense of what I have as well as find a possible contender for my Asos knockoff.  What I realized as I was pawing through all of them was that I have a lot of dress patterns.  I always knew I was a dress girl from way back, but sheesh!  I would hazard a guess that about two-thirds of my pattern collection are dresses (and mostly sheath dresses at that).  I don’t think I ever need to buy another dress pattern again.  Will someone please remind me of that when the next pattern sale happens again?

Another thing I discovered was that I had a bunch of patterns I no longer want anymore for various reasons, but mostly because I want to use patterns that flatter my body type.  So I am having my second ever giveaway on the blog.  There will be three groupings: Tops, Dresses, and Jackets.  There are various sizings and all the patterns are intact — a couple I have traced, so they are not in their factory folds.  If you are interested in the patterns, please let me know in the comments and specify which grouping in which you are interested.  If you are interested in more than one grouping or all three, please so indicate.  I will have the little boy who lives with me randomly choose one winner for each grouping of patterns.  The deadline to submit your comment is Saturday at 9pm PT/12am ET.  The drawing will be on Sunday.

Here are the patterns…

Now I think the shift dresses look great on you. You need something up top to carry off that kind of neckline! I also love your eye for a pattern. I’d be so happy to have either the dresses or the tops. Jackets I’m still too much of a newbie to try.

I would really like to try a HotPatterns pattern, but I’m on a pattern buying fast so winning one would be handy. Dresses or Jackets. Thank you. If you are heading up to the LA Garment District anytime, I would love to meet up. I’m in theOC but I have occasion to go to LA such as Oct 24th.

I find it hard sometimes to let go of what I wish I could sew, or that somehow I’m going to magically look like the stick figure on the front of the pattern envelope. But, I’ve found that by following bloggers who share a similar shape to me, my wadders are becoming less frequent and I’m getting the courage to try patterns/shapes that I otherwise wouldn’t have looked at.

Thanks for the opportunity to win some patterns. I really like the tops bundle.

Love to see what you sew, so much of it I would love to have myself. 🙂 Starting a new job that requires more of a dressed up look then how I dress now. So for me the dress set would be fantastic for me.

I am looking forward to see your take on the ASOS top. I too saw Lindsay T’s leather+knit top and recently Erica B’s leather peplum top and wanted to have something like them in my wardrobe… hehehe… Maybe if I sew faster… Anyways, I’d love the dress grouping (eventho I have and already made B5523, but the rest esp the Tom and Linda Platt one oooooooo….)

I would love a chance at winning the dresses, or the blouses. Thanks for giving away such great patterns. Sometimes I have a hard time parting with things, but it’s great to see other people happy with stuff that was otherwise ignored.

I’d love a chance at the dresses group and the jackets group. I’ll throw in a couple of patterns for you as a gift in return.
I didn’t join in the discussion yesterday, but did feel that you were being hard on yourself. I also didn’t agree that you are choosing styles that don’t suit you…except perfect the big baggy striped tshirt. Definitely a comfort piece, not to be worn beyond the boundaries of the house!

I’d love to throw my hat into the ring for the dresses. Course, we have similar builds but I saw many in the group that I thought I could make work for myself if I win.

I loved your last post and need to go back and read the comments. You are so right – most of us want what we don’t have. In fact, I’d love to have those dress patterns! g

I think all your dresses look fantastic and I also think your body shape is very nice! I don’t want to be greedy as I have lots of patterns but I love the Hot Patterns dress and it really flatters my top heavy body shape plus I have never used one or seen them in Australia. So if you want to break up that set I’d love the dress. And enjoy your time being the mummy baking… I love it.. it is such a short amount of time in Jack’s life and I’m sure he loves it.

  21. October 5, 2012

Oohh, lovely lovely dresses. Please add my name to your list for that grouping!

I would love to be in the grouping for the tops! I know how you feel about getting rid of patterns. I couldn’t sleep last weekend and was up at 6am on a Saturday because I had a sudden brain wave of what I was going to use an old hat box for. I put about 8 patterns in a box for the second hand store. I totally need a sewing blog so I can give them away!
