My friends, I have decided to SWALP or sew with a loose plan. Because you all know what happens when you put out on the interwebs that you’re going to do something… That something never happens. It’s the quickest route to Wadderville or Lost Mojo Unincorporated Township.
As I mentioned before traveling this past weekend, I am planning to honor my family’s sewing past with the next dress I make. I am currently planning to sew a white and navy linen colorblock sheath dress using, yep you guessed it, B5147, as the base again. Something along the lines of the dress in the top right hand corner of my colorblock inspiration board.
But I also have a hankering to make a casual skirt for the summer out of my new madras fabric from P&S fabrics. I can’t decide whether I want to make a straight skirt above the knee or maybe an a-line skirt. Hmmm… Not sure which would be more flattering for my rectangular shape. And wouldn’t it be cute if Jack had matching shorts of the same fabric, just like Thor’s? Of course I wouldn’t make him wear it on the same days I wore my skirt. Or would I?
Also on the SWALP is a simple pleated skirt using my beloved Ikat fabric (shown below at the bottom of the photo) from Gayfeather Fabrics in Madison. I think I’m going to draft the skirt myself. *gasp* I am envisioning a skirt with wide pleats, spaced about 3 inches apart, with a 2 inch waistband and a zipper in back.
So, that’s it, my SWALP. However, I’m not sure when I can start it. I have a lot of evening plans this week and my family is coming in for the holiday this weekend, so I will be really busy. But I am jonesing to start, so I will try to squeeze in sewing wherever and whenever I can.
Thank you for all your heartfelt messages about my grandma the past few days. I really appreciate each and every one of them.
