Unsolicitation #4

2011 March 9
by elizabeth_admin

Ok, it’s been a banner week for unsolicitations for me!  🙂

Today, as I was standing in line at Whole Foods, a woman standing behind me tapped me on my shoulder.  She said she loved my skirt and asked me where I bought it.  I told her it was actually a dress (she couldn’t see it was a dress because I had my coat on) and that I had made it.  She was surprised, but very complimentary.  She mentioned that she used to sew in her 20’s but no longer did.  I told her where I bought the fabric (Metro Textiles) and that sewing was a great hobby and she should get back into it.  She then asked me if I made most of my own clothes, to which I replied I’m trying to!

Here’s the dress I wore today, Vogue 8379…

My secret plan is to slowly take over the world and convince everyone to sew their own clothes.  Person #1, DONE!

PS: Don’t worry, I’m not going to post every time someone compliments the clothes I make.  (Assuming it keeps happening, of course!)  I am just so chuffed about it!

Congratulations! Nobody ever says that to me, but I’m sure they’re just too intimidated. 😉

Don’t forget to include that pretty punim!

    That dress is gorgeous.

I recieved a compliment on my top today. The woman didn’t believe me when I told her I made it. I actually had to point out the ugly zig zag hem as proof it wasn’t from the store. So if I ever actually get good at hemming- how will I prove my point?

Having now recieved 2 compliments on this shirt, I feel like I need to get into the sewing room and make something else!

I love that fabric, it reminds me of spider chrysanthumums or fireworks, exuberant!

I totally understand how you feel, it’s such a great feeling when someone (particularly a complete stranger!) compliments your handmade garments. I am not surprised you received a compliment on this very lovely dress. Keep up the excellent work preaching on the benefits of sewing!

Please post all your unsolicitations. I find them all very heartening – a score for sewistas in general. Anyway, it’s nice to hear nice things, not only rants!
