V8584 pictures and PR NYC Shopping Day

2011 July 15
by elizabeth_admin

I finally have pictures of my V8584 pants.  Yeah!  I wore them to work today and boy are they the most comfy pants I own.  They get pretty wrinkly, but I’m ok with that.  They’re linen.  It’s the inherent property of the fabric.  They are so swishy.  When I wore these for the second dinner, I wore them with a really fitted knit top with a deep decollete so the vibe is much different than what you will see here, which is what I call slouchy chic.  BTW, the dinner went fabulously and I hope there will be a third dinner when I get back from my trip!  🙂

And yes, that is one of the necklaces I made recently that I’m wearing.  I love it with this outfit.  I also wore a long white linenish sweater, so I look very lineny today.  I love these pants and this outfit.  The pants are so flowy when I walk, that it makes me think they would be super swishy in some sanded silk.  Now there’s an idea!

In other sewing news, Robin and I are hosting another Pattern Review NYC Shopping day this year!  It will be on August 27th.  Last year was a blast and everyone had a great time shopping together and buying some fabulous fabric.  Elliott Berman and Metro Textiles will be opening their doors for us especially.  We will run things a little differently from last year though.  Officially we will only be visiting these two stores.  I will be providing maps of the garment district (courtesy of Lindsay T’s Shop the Garment District site) so you can shop to your hearts’ content at all the other stores that are open on Saturdays, and there are a lot of them.  If small groups want to have lunch together, there are several restaurants around with varying prices.  But officially the shopping day will start at 9:45 and end at 1:30pm.  If you attended last year’s shopping extravaganza, I’m sure you will recall the fabric (and physical) exhaustion that comes from a day of fabric shopping.   Here’s the schedule as I’ve mapped it out so far:

9:45 am     Gather in front of nearby Starbucks (address TBD).  I will hand out maps of the garment district

and we’ll split into 2 groups

9:55 am      Each Group will walk to either Metro Textiles or Elliott Berman

10:00 am   Shopping commences!

11:00 am   Last call for fabric cutting at first store

11:30 am   Leave for 2nd store.  If you started at Metro Textiles, go to Elliott Berman and vice versa.

12:00 pm  Shopping part 2 commences!

1:00 pm    Last call for fabric cutting at second store

1:30 pm    End of the official shopping day

At this point, we can have lunch and shop more using your map of the garment district for a self-guided tour or just go home.  I started a thread on Pattern Review which has the same details and where you can see who’s coming already.  I hope to see you there!  All I ask is that you please either RSVP either on Pattern Review or here in the comments section so I know how many people to expect.  We had about 40 people last year and I think that’s pretty much the max for an outing of this kind considering the size of the stores.  Can’t wait!

FYI: I will be traveling the next two weeks and don’t really expect to be posting while I’m gone.  I will be in Wales and London.  I hope to visit some fabric stores while there and maybe meet some other sewing bloggers too!  If you’re interested in meeting up in London, please let me know in the comments section.

We’ll talk soon.  I promise!

I really like those pants — very flattering. That’s my favorite kind of thing to wear.

I would love to join the expedition on the 27th, too. My husband and I go to New York regularly, but he is oddly uninterested in exploring the garment district with me. 🙂

Yay – pics of the linen trousers :)!
You sooo need to make more – they look v. stylish on you!

You seem to have nailed the fit! Make more, many more. I could see these in lightweight wool (wool crepe, perhaps?) as well as silk, or even in stable knits. Go for it!

Have a great holiday. I wish I could just pop down to NYC for the morning but alas, the distance is too great. I will be sure to look you up if (when?) I plan a trip.

Perfect fitting pants, they look great. Linen is such nice fabric. Have a wonderful trip, hope you have time to visit the fabric stores. One of these years I am going to come to the PR NYC shopping trip.

Elizabeth, the pants look great. I wish I could “pop” into NY for a shop but alas I cannot. My friend just came back from NY and he even stayed one week in the garment district but refused to shop for anyone other than himself!!!

I hope you have a great holiday and I hope the third date that eventuates is fantastic also.

Great fitting pants, I don’t know if you have lost weight, are feeling less invisible now or if it is the dinner dates, but you are looking great! Have a brilliant trip to the Uk and Wales and look forward to hearing about it when you get back.

I really like the trousers, and agree that silk would be a lovely second fabric for them.

Shame I’m in New York two weeks too late for the shopping day! What a great idea.

I would LOVE to join if there’s still room — I posted on Pattern review too but just too excited not to post twice! 🙂

Lovely pants and linen is the best cos you don’t ‘have’ to iron them too much…..I’m going to have to check some out for me too. Have a wonderful time on your trip.
